Repowering Southern Vermont
WRV 100% Renewable is dedicated to meeting the energy needs of the West River Valley with renewable sources by 2025.
This includes Newfane, Brookline, Townshend, Jamaica, Wardsboro, Windham, and Grafton.
“Every day we make some impact on the planet. And the cumulative effect of millions of small ethical actions will truly make a difference.”
Jane Goodall and Douglas Abrams, The Book of Hope
Our approach
Five steps to Achieve 100% Renewable Energy
Take stock of current energy use in our seven towns, especially electricity, heating and cooling, and transportation.
Reduce energy consumption through investing through conservation, efficiency, and electrification.
Identify sites for new solar energy projects, while being sensitive to towns’ charters and farmlands.
Re-imagine the electric grid by piloting next generation grid solutions, like micro-grids and storage.
Catalyze local action by working with community members and neighbors to find solutions that work for everyone. Join us! Fill out the form below.
Our 2021 Projects
Utility-Scale Solar
Working in partnership with 3 companies that will finance, permit and build multiple solar arrays, WRV100 is identifying suitable sites throughout the West River Valley.
We have a deal for you!
If you a landowner in the West River Valley with 2-3 acres you’d like to use for a 150 kW solar “garden,” paid for by WRV100% Renewables solar partners, and receive an annual lease payment, email or call Bill Dunkel at bdunkel1455@gmail.com or 802-874-4131.
Electrify our School Buses
We are working with local school administrators to replace a diesel school bus with an electric bus.
Sign our petition calling on Windham Central Supervisory Union Superintendent Bill Anton to replace outdated, diesel-fueled school buses with electric school buses!
Increase Building Efficiency
We are working with local businesses to become climate leaders by investing in efficiency technology and energy conservation, which reduce our carbon footprint and save money in the long term.
Do you own a business in the West River Valley and want to save money by investing in energy conservation? Contact Peter Jewell at pjewell10@outlook.com or 832-267-6923.
We have the capacity to substantially reduce the risks of climate change
Cities, businesses, and local communities around the world and across the country have already begun the transition to 100% renewable energy sources, and prices of solar and wind energy have fallen significantly. Green Mountain Power has established a goal of de-carbonizing by 2025 and relying 100% on renewable energy sources by 2030.
Vermont’s Act 174 encourages energy planning on regional and town planning throughout the state. By acting locally, we can use these supports as well as our partnership with the Sierra Club’s Ready for 100 campaign to lead the way toward increased energy independence, environmental sustainability, and a thriving energy economy.
